This workshop is an introduction to Stew’s theater-making process, which considers the nexus of performer and song as the seed out of which a genuinely musical theater can emerge, as opposed to “a good story” upon which a bunch of songs can be attached.
• No previous songwriting/performance experience is necessary. •
This workshop also strives to demystify the songwriting process itself. Turning actors, playwrights, and directors into songwriters and performers. While encouraging those who are already songwriters/performers to go deeper into themselves, so their writing is actually "about" something they can feel and reflect as performers and not just a "great subject for a musical" upon which they can hang songs like holiday decorations.
